Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
